Our Housing Vision
In recent years, PARC has grown – figuratively, but also quite literally. Through the long-term advocacy of our community, PARC now owns or operates four contiguous properties on Queen Street West between Beatty and Dowling Streets. While these buildings currently provide dozens of crucial supportive housing units, they also present an incredible opportunity to improve and expand supportive housing in our community.
Tens of thousands of people in our city are currently on supportive housing waitlists. For most, the wait will take years, during which time they will continue to face housing insecurity and/or homelessness. We take our responsibility to the community seriously and recognize that we are among the only social service agencies in Toronto in a position to reimagine our properties to increase the supply of supportive housing units available.
PARC recently completed a rigorous visioning exercise developed in collaboration with Parcel and DTAH, which resulted in an ambitious plan to expand supportive housing and community space on PARC owned and operated properties.
The plan proposes:
- To create over 180 net new supportive housing units over the next ten years and renew almost 100 more
- To significantly expand community space
- To ensure that all current residents continue to have stable housing throughout the development period.
PARC is positioned to move quickly on the proposed developments, and is looking forward to working with funders, government and our community to bring this vision to life. We will share more information as it becomes available.
PARC has been working with the most vulnerable members of the Parkdale community for well over forty years and has been providing supportive housing for many of these members for over twenty years. In that time, PARC’s supportive housing portfolio has grown to include 109 units. Recently, PARC was chosen as the operator of the new development at 11 Brock Avenue, which will see a further 40+ units added to our community by the end of 2025.
