PARC began in 1977 when a group of volunteers observed the large number of adults living in Parkdale rooming and boarding houses. Many were survivors of the psychiatric system, had little money, few family contacts and no real place to go and connect with peers. On March 17th 1980 PARC opened its doors as a pilot community mental health program.
Our passion for providing member-driven programming, employment, food security, social space and safe supportive affordable housing, has evolved and grown to meet our members’ needs for over 45 years.
We are building a supportive community where people can rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose. We work alongside individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges, as well as those impacted by poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity. Through our drop-in centre, we offer social, creative, and recreational activities alongside essential services such as housing, financial guidance, employment support, and outreach programs. By walking through our doors, individuals become part of a community where they can grow, contribute, and create meaningful change together.
We envision a community where everyone lives with dignity, safety, and a true sense of belonging. We strive to create an environment where individuals have access to the resources, opportunities, and support they need to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Our vision is rooted in empowerment, inclusion, and the belief that every person deserves the chance to lead a fulfilling and independent life within a caring and connected community.
Our work is guided by a strong commitment to respect, dignity, and inclusion in everything we do. We believe in leading with compassion, kindness, and genuine care for every individual who walks through our doors. We foster a culture of trust, where people feel safe, heard, and supported on their journey. These values shape how we build relationships, deliver services, and create a welcoming community where everyone is encouraged to grow and belong.
