Housing Quarterly
Our ‘Housing Quarterly’ contains information about PARC and specifically, our housing strategy and portfolio. Understanding that the past few years have been challenging for everyone, our goal is to foster better communication with all of our neighbours and encourage dialogue/shared learning for any questions or concerns that arise.
Summer 2024
This quarter, we’re sharing maintenance updates and what’s ahead. We hope you will continue to reach out with any questions, concerns or feedback so we can work together to keep our community supported and housed.
Building Maintenance and Updates
Given the age and status (eg. Heritage buildings) of some our buildings, we are in constant maintenance mode to keep them in good repair and address some of the issues that have come up since they were acquired.
We have maintenance underway at the corner of Queen West and Beaty Ave. restoring the west-facing wall. Given the building’s age and status as a heritage site, we’ve encountered several complications requiring adjustments to our original plan. We now anticipate completing this phase by October 31st.
Since PARC acquired the building we’ve had to address many maintenance needs including replacing electrical panels, hot water tanks, replacing washers and dryers, and installed a new fire panel. We will continue to work on both repairs and improvements, to ensure the homes are in good shape and up to code for the tenants.
What’s Ahead?
Last autumn, PARC received seed funding and with staff, board and tenant members, outside experts, and friends of PARC, we embarked on a Long-Term Land Use Visioning exercise. The vision sets the stage for planning, zoning, and development.
We will be sharing more details of this vision on September 26, 2024, at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and in other community outreach events in the Fall.
We’re committed to doing our part to provide affordable, stable housing for those in need. Stay tuned for more updates!
In the news – Defining affordable Housing
“To address the housing crisis all three levels of government need to get on the same page about what ‘affordable housing’ means and how they’re going to make it happen.”
