PARC X CAMP: A Fall Adventure in Nature
This fall, PARC members and staff embarked on our annual camping trip. Over 30 members joined this year’s trip to leave behind the urban noise and embrace the peace of the great outdoors.
For five days, members camped under the stars, surrounded by trees and open skies. From sunrise hikes to sunset strolls, fishing by the water, and cozy campfires, it was a picture-perfect fall getaway. Members also had a chance to try rock climbing, archery, and a high ropes course.
The annual talent and awards show was a highlight as members and staff came together for an evening of laughter and entertainment, including juggling, tap dancing and plenty of singing and music.
In true PARC spirit, there was time for relaxing activities too. Whether it was crafting bracelets, learning the art of origami, enjoying a round of disc golf, or just sitting back and taking in the stunning northern lights and starry skies, everyone had the chance to unwind and connect with both nature and each other.
The accessible grounds made it easy for everyone to enjoy the water, while simple joys like singing along to campfire songs and playing dominoes kept spirits high.
Beyond the fun and games, the trip also allowed members to learn about the land and the ecological conservation efforts in progress. The opportunity to connect with nature on such a deep level is a truly valuable element of the program. It’s not just about a break from city life—it’s about fostering a connection to the land and the community, all while promoting the healing power of nature.
This program is especially meaningful because it provides individuals on fixed incomes with the chance to experience the outdoors in ways that might otherwise be out of reach. It’s a reminder of how nature can alleviate stress, promote well-being, and bring people together.
Members and staff alike are looking forward to next year’s trip. Until then, they’ll carry the calm, the laughter, and the memories of this unforgettable adventure with them.
