Parkdale Village Community Open House

17 May

On Saturday, June 2nd, there will be a “Parkdale Village Community Open House” at the new Parkdale Amphitheatre on the corner of Queen St W. and Dufferin, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come rain or shine!

The Open House offers the chance to meet many Parkdale community organizations in one place. A wide variety of groups will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.

Organizations taking part include the Parkdale Branch of the Toronto Public Library, St. Francis Table, Parkdale Community Legal Services, Greenest City, 11 & 14 Divisions of Toronto Police Service, Parkdale Community Information Centre, and Gallery 1313.

Vendors from the Sorauren Farmer’s Market will offer food. Local musicians and other performers will entertain. People will be invited to visit the soon-to-be-opened West End Food Co-op across the street.

The event will be preceded by a “Parkdale Village Historical Walk,” focusing on Queen Street and the surrounding neighbourhood. The walk, led by historian Roger Riendeau, will leave the Amphitheatre at 11 a.m. and return there by noon, in time for the Open House.

The Open House is sponsored by the Parkdale Residents Association, the Parkdale Village BIA, the West End Food Co-op, the Parkdale Community Development Group, and the Parkdale News.

The growing list of organizations attending is at http://parkdalenews.com/issues/openhouse/index.html.

Raft tours and comments of gratitude at 7:30 PM Lantern Ceremony at 10:00 PM

For the last year, we have been building a handmade raft and canoe and will bring these to the shore of Lake Ontario. Join the Adventure!

We imagine Parkdale as a kind of river that we flow up and down on. The raft represents the creation of the kind of temporary meeting place that we find at PARC where people come together traverse the rapids of life.

From now until the event they take place Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Contact me for more information.  I am also open to working with staff to bring workshops to the various groups that folks are involved in at PARC. I want to include as many members in as many ways as possible.

We are also hunting for 15 plastic barrels (with lids) and 200 feet of 2×4 lumber to be donated. If you have either of these items, please let me know! Michael Burt  mburtt@parc.on.ca
